“PanimWorks was an avenue through which I was able to test myself physically and emotionally. Sleeping in tents and weathering the outdoors kept me out of my comfort zone. Learning about the culture of Native Americans and the Navajo people gave me a new perspective on myself as an American.”
Lauren Weinberger,
Shaker Heights, OH

Service

Service work requires your hands-on participation. On PanimWorks, participants use tools which will be new to them, but part of everyday life for the Navajo people. Through sweat and smiles, PanimWorks groups assist families and communities with a wide variety of tasks.

Time takes on new meaning in the Navajo Nation. Flexibility and patience are primary virtues. While on PanimWorks, you will be in a rural environment: camping out, preparing your own food, and being an integral member of your group.

Through routine daily activities as well as the splendor of meaningful cultural events, you will experience life on the Navajo Reservation. Participants join the host communities for social activities such as tribal celebrations, community dinners, and simple dialogue surrounding work routines, local religious practice, and general ways of life. Participants on PanimWorks do not simply provide assistance, but become a temporary member of the community. During your experience, you will get a taste of both leisure and work activities as they are experienced on a routine basis by your hosts. This is more than just serving others; you will quickly realize that you have also served yourself.
